On the Shores of Lake Superior

I am finally getting around to editing my pictures from almost a month ago! (Slacking, again)

Over Memorial Day weekend we ventured to the Porcupine Mountains,  for a weekend of camping. We watched the weather for MONTHS, knowing it would change often. The very first time we checked it it said rain... which I did not want to deal with for 2 nights/3 days of camping. We kept an eye on it, it changed a number of times , even changes during the same week. It was nice, no rain and sun, back to some rain, on it went . It even changed the NIGHT BEFORE. Luckily, I grabbed more clothes for the kids before we left town (you never know in the U.P) because it ended up raining. The very 1st forecast back in March was right after all.  We were wet and chilly for 1/2 a day and a night. IT sucked. I was about ready to throw in the towel on camping all together. Did I mention we didn't have any extra shoes? Fun stuff having to wear wet shoes the next day.  So you live and you learn, right? The rest of the weekend was beautiful.  I no feel hatred toward tenting it.
I snapped a bunch of pictures so I will have a few blog entries!  Lake Superior is up first because that was MY highlight of the trip.

Ontonagon River in the Spring

Whenever we head to the U.P. I make sure I have my camera, there are times it never comes out. But, the trip we made in April I made sure to snap some pictures since it was a nice Spring day and I hadn't been out in awhile.

Gray November; Take 2

I was feeling creative tonight and I decided to go through some folders of pictures on the computer. I came across a few more from my time in Ontonagon that I edited and thought I'd share.

Houghton Breakers in Winter

Ah, the things I have no clue about. I lived in the U.P. (Houghton area)  almost my entire life from birth to my early 20s and there are so many things I have no clue the history about or names, etc. This place is one of them. We only ever referred to it as "the Breakers", you drive down Houghton Canal road till you can't drive anymore and there it is. Upon my search for a more formal name I stumbled across the true name of the place, North Canal Township Park, or aka West Portage Entry (again, didn't know this). There was a sign up (I can't recall what it said) but it made me think that the park may no longer be open, or maybe it was just up since it is winter. The Lake can get quite ferocious, especially in the winter. It was a rather calm day, but I could hear huge waves crashing on the other side of the wall that I could not see. Oh, how I wanted to venture over to it, but it was quite a ways away and my husband already had to make sure I was okay while I was getting these shots in. :)
If you have never been to Lake Superior I suggest you make a special trip to see it. You will not be disappointed. Everyone falls in love with it. It's hard not to!

Gray November

Over the four day Thanksgiving weekend I got a chance to capture some pictures of Lake Superior in Ontonagon, Michigan.  I think this may have been my first time being at the lake in the Winter! I can't believe I haven't been there during this time of year. It was a cold but peaceful day to snap some shots.

Adventures around the Keweenaw

The Copper Country of the U.P. of Michigan sure is beautiful, if you love nature and unique landscapes I suggest you pay a visit! Growing up in that area I never realized just how unique the area is. Last month when I visited I saw it with "new" eyes since it has been awhile since I had more than a weekend to visit. My dad, brother & sons took a ride to the Keweenaw, to Eagle River.  I didn't get nearly as many pictures as I would have liked. I keep saying I need to do a "tour" of the Copper County and I never get around to doing it! I need to make the time, sooner rather than later.

Lake Superior Summer Sunset

If I were to name one place on earth that I loved it would be by the shores of Lake Superior. I love the feeling of being there, so calm & relaxing. My soul was craving being by the Lake for months, so of course once I was able to go there I had to take some pictures.  I love watching the sun go down on the Lake, every night's sunset is different. This is from July 24th, if I remember right.
