My 1st project

About a month ago my best friend's husband asked me to do a special photography project for his wife. He came up with the idea of having me photograph the place he proposed  and the place they got married. Such a sweet idea. Of course I said yes, I was excited to be working on something.  I had a ton of fun doing the project. I took the pictures over Thanksgiving weekend. It was gorgeous on Thanksgiving day  so we drove to the Portage River Entry lighthouse in Jacobsville, MI (White City). The sun was too bright for my liking but I got quite a few nice shots anyway. The next day my hubby and I drove to Calumet, MI to take some photos at  St. Paul the Apostle. It was freezing that day and much to my disappointment the church was locked so I could not get in to take any pictures. We had to go back in the morning and take some after mass. They don't allow people in there very long after mass is over.  I think I was only in there for 30 minutes, I could have stayed a lot longer in there.
Here is the completed art work. He was thrilled with it and my best friend said she LOVED IT. :)
I'd love to work on something like this again.

A couple pictures of the 2 places. I will be doing some entries just for them, soon.

2013 Ideas

With it being winter, sometimes I struggle with what I can do for photo shoots to put on the blog. I do have a decent list, that does not require nice weather  BUT I need more, plus another year is starting.
Anyone have any good ideas?

Also now through January 1st my etsy shop is 15% off!

2012 in Review

I started my journey to better my photography skills on March 8th, 2012. I think I have become better to an extent. I know I still have a lot to learn. I haven't read any photography books.  I am a hands-on learner so reading them and trying to put it into practice feels like a foreign language. I have read a few articles online, but mostly I just go out and shoot.

What I’ve learned this year; lighting matters, a lot. I’ve learned to watch for certain things such as the lighting/shadows, and checking what is in the background of your shot. Doing this blog has really opened my eyes to the beauty that is around me.
What I still need to learn; ISO, shooting darker scenes, get more intimate with my camera.

I know I acquired a new camera along the way but I still think my skills got a tiny bit better. I need to practice with people now.

my very 1st shot for the blog

Some of my favorites from the year. I wish I still was able to get to D.C. and take some better shots of what I have and to get some great shots now that my photographer eye has been opened.

Snowy Pines

As much as I hate winter, I do think the first snowfall on the trees is pretty.
These was taken over Thanksgiving weekend while visiting family in the Houghton & Chassell, Michigan area.

Quincy Mine Hoist Part 2

On Friday I posted some shots of the Quincy Mine Hoist, here are some miscellaneous items. Like I said on Friday, there are so many things I could have photographed, I need a lot more time there!

The Quincy Mine Hoist Part 1

The Quincy Mine Hoist #2 in Hancock, Mighigan is a Copper Country Symbol. It can be seen from many miles away.  I went on  a tour while in High School but I do not remember much about it. I'd love to go on a tour again.
The day was a tad gloomy. I could have spent hours at this area, but my hubby & son were in the car waiting. I will have to go back alone in the summer.
