Spring Giveaway

I've decided to do another giveaway. A nice Spring giveaway since it is surely not Spring yet for most of us.
Giveaway details: 3 winners!
Grand prize: this photo and a certificate for $5 OFF any item in my Etsy shop.
2nd & 3rd winners: $5 OFF any item in my Etsy Shop.

Photo details, 8x10 matte with a slightly smaller print.
I just love how Spring-like this photo is, I almost want to keep it for myself!

This time I am using Rafflecopter for my giveaway, you simply have to do 1 or all of the things on the widget to earn an entry. The contest is open for 2 weeks, starting today (March 27th).
I've also started a Facebook page for my shop. Check it out, just search Discoveryofd Photography on Facebook.
I've also added some new items to my Etsy shop that I really like, I hope you do too.
(Sorry, the contest is only for the U.S.)

Untitled Winter II

This week I've been going through my pictures, deleting ones that aren't so good so I can copy them onto a flash drive. I ran across these and I thought I'd share.
I've also been brainstorming with my best friend on ideas on branching out and doing more since I really love to do photography. I am excited, yet hesitant. My inner critic always talks too loud.

Irvine Park

Last weekend I went out in search of something that represented Spring, I didn't come up with much but I did get some nice pictures at Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls, WI. The Park is free, there is a small zoo,  playgrounds and a nice route through the park and woods.
There are a few other things in the park I want to get some photos of before Winter ends.

Shutter speed & Aperture

This past weekend I played around with the shutter speed & aperture on my camera. I was trying to capture the movement of the water. I am not all that pleased with what I captured. I definitely want/need to mess around with this more.

Weekly Photo Project Week 11: Spring or Autumn

Yesterday I went out and searched for anything spring-like. It was too late in the day to even get some drops of melting snow but I did manage to capture something cheery. The SUN. That is about the only thing that hints at nicer weather that I hope is approaching....

Year in Review

It has been 1 year since I first started this blog. Here is the 1st entry.

Exposed 2012  My 2nd entry I took a picture of just me, bare (no makeup), so I'll do it again this year.

Age 31 March 2012 (CanonPowershot)

Age 32 March 2013 (Nikon D70)
The Nikon takes much crispier photos, I can't get away with many facial flaws on that :-P

What I learned in the past year,
  •  I used to think that maybe food/catering was my passion, until I went back to work in December. I then realized that it is not a passion of mine, I enjoy it, I love to make food look nice but it is not a passion of mine like photography is. I feel at peace taking pictures, I don't want it to end when I do it. I hate that I haven't been doing it as much lately and I only have myself to blame. This 1st winter back in the Midwest in 5 years is taking a toll on me, it's been too cold. Now that it is finally warming up I'm going to make a serious effort to take more photos.
  • Rule of Thirds
  • Depth of Field
  • Ways to shoot better, looking at positioning, etc.
  • I need to network, promote and advertise more
  • And most importantly, do not leave my camera out of my site! Although I now have a much better camera  thanks to a very giving relative. I will not be leaving this one unattended while out of the house.
My favorite shoots from the last year,
My photography project I did was by far the most fun, from start to finish. My other favorite shoots were Cherry Blossoms (taken w/ the powershot), and the Devil's Punchbowl outing (Part 1 & Part 2).
I am so very much looking forward to Spring & Summer. With more daylight and warmer weather I should be able to get out more often. Plus, summer means roadtrips!
I'm planning on revamping my Etsy Shop and  promoting it more. I'm planning on doing another photo giveaway soon as well!
